Boletus mushrooms from our forest

The Perigord Noir is rich in deciduous forests that have always brought to the people who have lived there their daily lives' food. Even today, owners pamper our forests for their resources. Amongst these, mushrooms, most specifically ceps are the object of all attentions. Ceps love the humus-rich undergrowth of the environment especially under chestnut trees that are numerous around Villefranche du Périgord. For this reason, when ceps are to be found in large numbers, the bastide village holds an exceptional market everyday...which fills with joy every cep lover!

The mushroom market of Villefranche du Périgord

Open every day from 3pm during the growing season, the mushroom market is held under the market place of Villefranche du Périgord. It is organised by the Mairie (townhall) of Villefranche du Périgord to ensure that rules and regulations are properly in place and therefore

guarantee the buyers a product of an excellent quality.
